Seeking asylum in the hills & transcendence on the trails

Sur les Traces des Ducs de Savoie (TDS) at UTMB

We’re taking this racing thing International! Plane leaves very early tomorrow morning and I’ll be on it raring to go.

The TDS is part of the UTMB event in Chamonix and is…

‘A race in open country along the ‘Grande Randonnée’ paths crossing though the Mont-Blanc, Beaufort, Tarentaise and Aosta valley countryside.
A mountainous event, including numerous sections at altitude (>2,500m), in weather conditions which can be very difficult (night, wind, cold, rain or snow), requiring a very good level of fitness, the appropriate equipment and a real capacity for personal autonomy.’

In short it is approx. 114 km across the Alps with 7150 m of positive altitude change. It starts on Thursday 30th August 2012 at 7am with maximum completion time of 31hrs 30mins.

You can follow the race from http://www.ultratrailmb.com and there will be live webTV coverage. My twitter account @pyllon will also automatically post times / positions as I pass through checkpoints.

Also worth checking my comrades feeds: @runner786 @dingdongrun @johnnnny_m all running too. JM in the UTMB race.

Will be flying the WHW family flag.

Mange tout mes amis 🙂

Hope you have a great time.

I’m not saying great “run”, as quite a bit may be spent “walking” ~ even you! 😉

(It’s going to be a long session for the couch potatoes, with the TDS, CCC and UTMB to follow)
